Smartlead vs Lemlist: Which Cold Email Tool Wins in 2026?
On this page
Every week the same question lands in a founder Slack or a sales subreddit: "Smartlead vs Lemlist, which one should I actually buy?" And every week the thread splits the same way. The agency people say Smartlead and nothing else. The people doing LinkedIn outreach say lemlist and nothing else. Then someone quotes a price from 2024 and the whole thread argues about numbers that are no longer on either pricing page.
We've run outbound for our own company and watched a lot of teams arrive from both tools, so we've seen the real reasons people choose each one and the real reasons they leave. This is our attempt to settle the question properly, with verified 2026 pricing, an honest read on where each tool wins, and a verdict for each type of team. Prices below are list prices on monthly billing, checked on both vendors' pricing pages on 25 August 2026.
Smartlead vs Lemlist: the short answer
Here's our strong opinion, and the rest of the post is the evidence for it. Smartlead and lemlist aren't really competing for the same job. Smartlead is a sending engine. It exists to push a lot of cold email into inboxes from a pool of mailboxes without burning any one of them. lemlist is a sequencer. It exists to earn a human reply across whatever channel that human answers, and email is only one of its steps.
So the first question isn't "which tool." It's "do I need volume or channels?" Once you've answered that honestly, the choice mostly makes itself.
The table below adds a third column for SmartReach.io, which has competed with lemlist in the same category for over eight years. Disclosure: we publish this post. The head-to-head sections that follow compare Smartlead and lemlist only; we make our own case in a separate section near the end.

- Agencies and technical senders who want unlimited mailboxes, sender rotation and client workspaces
Smartlead is the tool people graduate to when a simpler cold email tool starts to feel like a toy. The headline feature is real: unlimited email accounts and unlimited warmup on every plan, including the $39 Base tier, with sends rotated across the whole pool automatically. SmartSenders provisions Google, Outlook or SMTP mailboxes with SPF, DKIM and DMARC already configured. A master inbox pulls replies from every mailbox and every client workspace into one view. Then the infrastructure layer stacks on top: dedicated SmartServers, white-label client workspaces, API and webhooks, and a paid placement-testing product called SmartDelivery.
The trade-off is that Smartlead assumes you know what a DMARC record is, and everything beyond raw sending costs extra. Its multichannel story is also thinner than the marketing suggests. LinkedIn happens through integrations with tools like HeyReach and Aimfox or through webhooks, and calling is the SmartDialer add-on. We fact-checked its pitch line by line in our Smartlead AI review.
Pros
- Unlimited mailboxes and unlimited warmup on every plan, including Base
- Automatic sender rotation across the mailbox pool
- No per-seat billing anywhere in the pricing
- White-label client workspaces, API, webhooks and dedicated servers for agencies
- Pre-authenticated mailboxes through SmartSenders
Cons
- Email only as a native channel; LinkedIn needs a second tool
- No lead database, and verification beyond the plan quota is paid
- Placement testing, dedicated IPs and client workspaces are all add-ons
- Interface assumes technical comfort
- API and webhooks only included on the Unlimited tiers
lemlist

- Best for
- Teams that want LinkedIn, calls and email in one sequence, with visual personalization and lead data included
lemlist started life as the personalization tool, the one that put your prospect's name on a coffee cup in a custom image, and it grew into a full multichannel sequencer. One sequence today can hold email, LinkedIn profile visits, connection requests and messages, calls through the in-app dialer, SMS, and WhatsApp as an add-on, with conditional branches between them. A 650M+ lead database ships with every plan, so you search, enrich and sequence without leaving the tool. lemwarm handles warmup and a Deliverability Hub reports on mailbox and domain health.
What lemlist doesn't do is rotate senders. Every send goes out of the mailbox assigned to it, and on the Multichannel plan each user gets five senders. That's fine for a rep working a focused territory and restrictive if you're trying to run a mailbox pool. The other thing that changed in 2026 is the Email plan, which is now $69 for the whole workspace with unlimited users, a repricing that most comparison posts haven't caught up with. Our Lemlist review covers the interface and the user feedback in more depth.
Pros
- Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS and WhatsApp as steps in one conditional sequence
- 650M+ lead database included on every plan, including Email
- Deepest personalization in the category: custom images, landing pages, AI icebreakers
- Email plan is per workspace with unlimited users and unlimited senders
- lemwarm and the Deliverability Hub included on every plan
Cons
- No sender rotation, so volume leans on individual mailboxes
- Multichannel is $109 per user, and per-seat compounds fast
- Five senders per user on Multichannel
- No white-label client workspaces; Enterprise has a five-user minimum
- Data reveals cost credits on top of the plan
Smartlead vs Lemlist pricing in 2026
Is the sticker price the price you'll pay? Rarely. This is where most Smartlead vs Lemlist advice goes wrong, because it quotes plan prices without the add-ons and billing units that decide the real total.
Smartlead pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Active contacts | Emails/month | Verified emails | API and webhooks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | $39 | 2,000 | 6,000 | 2,000 | No |
| Pro | $94 | 30,000 | 90,000 | 30,000 | Listed as add-on |
| Unlimited Smart | $174 | Unlimited | 150,000 | 50,000 | Included |
| Unlimited Prime | $379 | Unlimited | 500,000 | 170,000 | Included, 3 client workspaces, 3 SmartServers |
Annual billing takes 17% off across the board ($32.50, $78.30, $144.50 and $314.60 a month), and no plan charges per seat. Then the add-ons, which is where an agency's real spend sits: a $59 a month line on Base and Pro (the pricing page has labelled it as verified prospect emails and as the premium warmup pool at different times this year, so read the row before you buy), SmartDelivery placement testing from $49 a month, SmartServers at $39 per server, white-label client workspaces at $29 each from Pro, SmartSenders mailboxes at $13 per domain a year plus $4.50 per mailbox a month, extra verification credits from $32, and SmartDialer calling credits from $9 a month. The middle of that table is built to push you to Unlimited Smart, and if you're an agency, that's honestly where you should start.
lemlist pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Billing unit | Senders | Emails/month | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $69 | Per workspace, unlimited users | Unlimited | 50,000 | ||
| Multichannel | $109 | Per user | 5 per user | Unlimited | Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS, WhatsApp add-on |
| Enterprise | Custom | Per user, 5-user minimum | 5+ per user | Unlimited | All |
Annual billing brings Email to $55 and Multichannel to $87 per user a month. Data runs on credits at $0.01 each: 5 credits ($0.05) to reveal a verified email, 20 credits ($0.20) for a phone number, and 20 to 400+ for buying-intent signals. The database itself is included on every plan, which matters more than it sounds once you price the alternatives. The 14-day trial gives full access to the Multichannel plan, so you can test LinkedIn steps before paying for them.

What a real team pays
Three scenarios, same rules for both tools: monthly billing, list price, August 2026.
One founder, email only, own list. Smartlead Base $39 against lemlist Email $69. Smartlead is $30 a month cheaper, and the $30 buys a database you said you don't need. If you're comfortable with DNS, Smartlead. If you'd rather never see a DNS record, lemlist's setup is gentler and the gap is a coffee a week.
Five people, email only, need a lead database. Smartlead Pro is $94 flat, but there's no database, so add a data subscription somewhere else at $47 to $59 a month and you're at $141 to $153. lemlist Email is $69 flat with unlimited users, 50,000 emails and the database included, plus credits when you reveal contacts. Here's the part that surprises people who last looked in 2024: lemlist is the cheaper option in this scenario by a wide margin, and it isn't close.
Ten reps, email plus LinkedIn. lemlist Multichannel is 10 × $109, or $1,090 a month, before credits. Smartlead can't run LinkedIn as a sequence step, so you're pairing Unlimited Smart at $174 with a LinkedIn automation tool that has its own per-seat bill, and reconciling two inboxes. Either way you're past a thousand dollars a month, and the question becomes whether you'd rather pay it to one vendor or two.
Head to head: which one wins for each feature?
Deliverability and sending infrastructure
Smartlead wins this one, and it isn't particularly close. Unlimited mailboxes and unlimited warmup on every plan, automatic rotation so a thousand sends spread across twenty mailboxes instead of hammering one, SmartSenders for mailboxes that arrive with authentication done, a visible warmup pool, dedicated servers if you pay for them, and placement testing through SmartDelivery. It's the deepest sending toolkit in the category.
lemlist has lemwarm and a Deliverability Hub that reports on mailbox and domain health, and both are included on every plan. But there's no sender rotation. On the Multichannel plan you get five senders per user, which is a rep's allocation, not a pool. lemlist's answer is that you shouldn't need a pool if your emails are personalized enough to earn replies, and for smaller curated campaigns that's fair. At volume, it isn't.
One thing neither tool changes: Google's bulk sender guidelines require SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication and a spam complaint rate under 0.3%, and no software papers over a bad list. If your bounce rate is above 5%, your problem is data, not the tool.
Winner: Smartlead.
Channels and personalization
This is lemlist's home turf. Email, LinkedIn profile visits, connection requests and messages, in-app calls, SMS and WhatsApp all run as steps inside one conditional sequence, with a unified inbox for the replies. On top of that, lemlist still has the deepest personalization in the category: custom images and personalized landing pages, liquid syntax for conditional copy, and AI-written icebreakers per contact.
Smartlead is email first. It has added AI writing and its SmartAgents layer can trigger actions across tools, LinkedIn is reachable through HeyReach and Aimfox integrations or webhooks, and calling is the SmartDialer add-on. All of that works, but it's assembling a multichannel sequence from parts rather than building one in a single canvas. If your reps need to see the LinkedIn step and the email step in the same timeline, that's lemlist.
Winner: lemlist, by a distance.
Lead data and verification
lemlist includes its 650M+ database on every plan, including the $69 Email plan, and charges credits only when you reveal a contact's details. Smartlead has no lead database. Each plan includes a quota of verified emails for lists you bring (2,000 on Base up to 170,000 on Unlimited Prime), and extra verification credits are sold separately.
If you already buy data from Apollo, ZoomInfo or a list broker, this section doesn't matter and Smartlead pulls ahead on price. If you don't, lemlist's included database is worth roughly a $47 to $59 a month subscription somewhere else, and that flips the five-person scenario above.
Winner: lemlist.

Team, agency and API
Smartlead was built with agencies in mind and it shows. White-label client workspaces at $29 a month each from Pro, three included on Unlimited Prime, API and webhooks on the Unlimited tiers so you can pipe results into your own client reporting, dedicated SmartServers, and no per-seat billing anywhere. An agency running eight client workspaces on Unlimited Smart pays $174 plus $232 in workspaces, and can add reps without the bill moving.
lemlist has multi-workspace features, but they're aimed at internal teams rather than client accounts. Its Enterprise plan is billed per user with a five-user minimum, and there's no white-label option. Agencies do run lemlist, usually for LinkedIn-heavy clients, but they're working against the pricing model rather than with it.
Winner: Smartlead.
Ease of use and support
lemlist is the more polished product to sit in front of. The sequence builder is visual, the onboarding is guided, and G2 reviewers consistently praise its chat support at every tier. Smartlead's interface has improved, but it still assumes you're comfortable with DNS records, warmup settings and webhook payloads, and it rewards that comfort with control. Dedicated support only arrives on Unlimited Prime.
That said, lemlist's sheer number of channels and settings means a longer ramp for a junior rep than an email-only tool. A Tanya in her first SDR job will find lemlist's builder friendlier and its settings menu bigger.
Winner: lemlist.
Integrations
Both cover the CRMs that matter. Smartlead lists HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive, Slack, Clay and Zapier, plus webhooks and an API, but API and webhook access sits on the Unlimited tiers rather than Base. lemlist connects to HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive natively, with Zapier, Make and an API for the rest, and its Chrome extension pulls contacts straight off LinkedIn into a sequence. For a RevOps lead building a custom pipeline, Smartlead's API is the deeper one. For a rep who wants LinkedIn-to-sequence in one click, lemlist.
Winner: tie. Smartlead for builders, lemlist for reps.
Which one for your team?
Think about who's actually going to log in every morning. Alex, a VP of Sales running twelve SDRs, has a different problem from a founder doing outbound between customer calls, and the right answer changes with them.
Solo founder or two-person team, email only
Smartlead Base, $39. Unlimited mailboxes and rotation from day one, and the cheapest entry price in this comparison. If DNS records make you nervous, lemlist Email at $69 is the gentler version of the same answer, with a database thrown in.
Agency running outbound for clients
Smartlead, starting at Unlimited Smart ($174). Client workspaces at $29 each, API for reporting, dedicated servers when a client needs them, and no per-seat bill as you hire. lemlist isn't built for this.
SDR team that runs LinkedIn and calls in the sequence
lemlist Multichannel. It's the only one of the two that runs every channel as a native sequence step, and the database means you're not paying for data twice. Budget $109 per seat and accept that there's no rotation, so keep email volume per rep sane.
Email-only team of five or more that needs a database
lemlist Email, surprisingly. $69 flat for unlimited users with the database included beats Smartlead Pro plus a data subscription by $70 to $80 a month. This is the answer most comparisons written before the 2026 repricing get wrong.

What about the technical in-house team, say Stan in RevOps running forty mailboxes across eight domains for a ten-person SDR floor? Smartlead, unless the team also needs LinkedIn steps in the same sequence, in which case you're choosing between lemlist with its per-seat bill and the alternative in the section below.
One honest uncertainty. Smartlead's $59 add-on line on Base and Pro has been labelled differently on its own pricing page more than once this year, and lemlist repriced its Email plan in 2026. The prices in this post are what both pricing pages showed on 25 August 2026, and we'll update it when they change, but if you're reading this months later, check the add-on rows before you trust the totals.
Smartlead vs Lemlist: final verdict
If your outbound lives in email volume, buy Smartlead. If it lives in the reply, across more than one channel, buy lemlist. Almost nobody is genuinely torn once they've answered that.
Choose Smartlead if you:
- Run email-only outbound and want to scale mailboxes without scaling the bill
- Are an agency that needs white-label client workspaces and an API
- Care about sender rotation, dedicated servers and placement testing
- Have a technical operator who's comfortable with DNS and webhooks
- Already buy lead data somewhere else
Choose lemlist if you:
- Need LinkedIn, calls, SMS or WhatsApp as steps in the same sequence as email
- Win on personalization rather than volume
- Want a lead database included rather than bought separately
- Are an email-only team of five or more that would rather pay $69 flat than per seat elsewhere
- Prefer a guided, visual builder and generous support at the entry tier

If neither fits
Disclosure first: this post is published by SmartReach.io, which competes with both tools. We've tried to keep the comparison above straight, and this section is where we make our own case.
The gap in this comparison is obvious once you lay it out. Smartlead has the rotation but not the channels. lemlist has the channels but not the rotation. So the team that needs both, which in our experience is most teams past about five reps, ends up either paying per seat for lemlist and keeping volume low, or running Smartlead plus a LinkedIn tool and reconciling two inboxes.
SmartReach.io was built for that team. Email, LinkedIn, calling and WhatsApp run as conditional steps in one sequence, like lemlist. Underneath, the Deliver4Sure suite does inbox rotation across your mailbox pool, ESP matching (Google-to-Google and Microsoft-to-Microsoft routing, which neither tool above offers), blacklist monitoring that pulls an affected inbox out of rotation automatically, and free email verification on every plan. Lead Finder, with 300M+ contacts, is built in. Pricing is by prospects contacted with unlimited users: Email Outreach from $29 a month, the multichannel Sales Engagement plan from $39 a month.
Second tier, like for like
Entry plans flatter everyone, so here's the comparison most teams actually face: the second tier of each product, monthly billing, August 2026. Smartlead Pro, lemlist Multichannel, and SmartReach.io Sales Engagement Plus. We've left the cells where we lose exactly as they are.
| Smartlead | lemlist | SmartReach.io | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan | Pro | Multichannel | Sales Engagement Plus |
| Price | $94 | $109 per user | $99 |
| Billing | Flat, per workspace | Per seat | Flat, unlimited users |
| Five users | $94 | $545 | $99 |
| Emails/month | 90,000 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Mailboxes / warmup | Unlimited / unlimited | 5 per user / lemwarm | Unlimited / 25 warmup accounts |
| Sender rotation | Yes | No | Yes, with ESP matching |
| Channels in a sequence | Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS, WhatsApp | Email, LinkedIn, calls, WhatsApp | |
| Lead data | None, verification quota | 650M+ included, credits to reveal | Lead Finder included, free verification |
| Client workspaces | $29 each | No | No white-label |
| API and webhooks | Add-on on Pro | Included | Included |
| Buy mailboxes in-app | SmartSenders add-on | No | Google, Microsoft, Azure |
The row that decides it for a team is billing. lemlist Multichannel is the only per-seat line in the table, and per-seat is the multiplier: five reps is $545 a month, ten is $1,090, before a single credit. Smartlead Pro is flat but email only, so the LinkedIn and calling steps happen in another tool with its own bill. SmartReach.io Sales Engagement Plus is $99 for the workspace with unlimited users, four channels and rotation in one place. If the team is email only, Email Outreach Plus is $89 on the same terms.
Where it doesn't beat them, and the table shows it: Smartlead warms unlimited mailboxes where Plus warms 25 (Pro warms 75, Scale is unlimited), Smartlead's agency tooling, white-label workspaces and API are deeper, and lemlist's visual personalization is the best in the category. If one of those is the thing you're buying, buy it.
Whatever you shortlist, test it the same way. Take 200 real prospects from your actual market, run a real two-week sequence, and measure inbox placement and reply rate rather than feature counts. Two weeks of your own data beats every comparison post on the internet, including this one.
Smartlead vs Lemlist: FAQ
Which is better, Smartlead or Lemlist?
Neither wins outright, because they solve different problems. Smartlead is a high-volume cold email sending engine with unlimited mailboxes, unlimited warmup and sender rotation on every plan, priced per workspace from $39 a month. Lemlist is a multichannel sequencer that runs email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS and WhatsApp in one flow, with a 650M+ lead database included, from $69 a month for email and $109 per user a month for multichannel. Pick Smartlead if your outbound lives in email volume. Pick lemlist if it lives in the reply, across more than one channel.
Is Smartlead cheaper than Lemlist?
For one person, yes. On monthly billing in August 2026, Smartlead Base is $39 and lemlist Email is $69. For a team it depends on billing units. Smartlead never charges per seat, so five people on Pro still pay $94. Lemlist Email is $69 per workspace with unlimited users, but its Multichannel plan is $109 per user, so five reps pay $545 before credits. If you need a lead database, lemlist Email is often the cheaper total because the database is included and Smartlead has none.
Which has better deliverability, Smartlead or Lemlist?
Smartlead. Every plan includes unlimited mailboxes, unlimited warmup and automatic sender rotation across your mailbox pool, plus SmartSenders for pre-authenticated mailboxes and a paid placement-testing product called SmartDelivery. Lemlist includes lemwarm and a Deliverability Hub on every plan but has no sender rotation, and the Multichannel plan caps senders at five per user. Neither tool fixes a bad list or missing SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.
Does Smartlead do LinkedIn outreach?
Not as a native sequence step. Smartlead is email first. LinkedIn is reachable through integrations with tools like HeyReach and Aimfox, through webhooks, and through its SmartAgents automation layer, and calling is sold as the credit-based SmartDialer add-on. Lemlist runs LinkedIn profile visits, connection requests and messages as steps inside the same sequence as email, on its Multichannel plan at $109 per user a month.
Which is better for agencies, Smartlead or Lemlist?
Smartlead, clearly. It offers white-label client workspaces at $29 a month each from the Pro plan, three included on Unlimited Prime, API and webhook access on the Unlimited tiers, dedicated SmartServers at $39 a month, and unlimited mailboxes with no per-seat billing. Lemlist's Enterprise plan is billed per user with a five-user minimum and its workspace features are built for internal teams rather than client accounts.
Does Lemlist include a lead database and does Smartlead?
Lemlist includes a 650M+ contact database on every plan, including the $69 Email plan, and charges credits only to reveal details: 5 credits for a verified email and 20 for a phone number, at $0.01 a credit. Smartlead has no lead database. Its plans include a quota of verified emails for lists you bring, and it sells extra verification credits separately.
Is there an alternative to Smartlead and Lemlist?
Yes. If you want lemlist's multichannel sequencing together with the mailbox rotation Smartlead is known for, SmartReach.io covers both, billed by prospects contacted with unlimited users, from $29 a month for email outreach and $39 a month for the multichannel Sales Engagement plan. Other tools that appear on the same shortlist are Instantly, Saleshandy, Woodpecker and Reply.io. Disclosure: SmartReach.io publishes this comparison.
Can I switch from Lemlist to Smartlead, or the other way, without losing deliverability?
Yes, if you own your domains and mailboxes. Both tools connect to mailboxes you bought from Google or Microsoft, so sender reputation travels with the mailbox rather than the tool. Warmup history inside the platform doesn't travel, so reconnect your mailboxes and let the new tool warm them for one to two weeks before sending at full volume. If you bought mailboxes through Smartlead's SmartSenders, check the export terms before you cancel.
