Instantly vs Smartlead vs Lemlist: Which One Wins in 2026?
On this page
Every few weeks someone posts the same question in a founder community or a sales Slack: "Instantly vs Smartlead vs Lemlist, settle this for me." The replies are always the same too. Three people swear by Instantly, two say Smartlead is the only one that scales, one person who does LinkedIn outreach says lemlist and nothing else, and someone points out that half the pricing quoted in the thread is a year out of date.
We've run outbound for our own company and watched hundreds of customers arrive from all three of these tools, so we've seen the real reasons people pick each one and the real reasons they leave. This is our attempt to settle the question properly: verified 2026 prices, where each tool honestly wins, and a verdict for each type of team. Prices below are monthly list prices on monthly billing, checked on the vendors' own pricing pages on 25 August 2026.
Instantly vs Smartlead vs Lemlist: the short answer
Here's our strong opinion, and the rest of this post is the evidence for it: the three-way question is really a two-way question wearing a disguise. Instantly and Smartlead are sending engines. They exist to get a lot of email into inboxes from a pool of mailboxes without burning any one of them. lemlist is a sequencer. It exists to get a human reply across whatever channel that human actually answers, and email is just one of its steps.
So the first decision isn't "which of the three." It's "do I need a sending engine or a sequencer?" Once you've answered that, you're choosing between Instantly and Smartlead, or you're choosing lemlist. Almost nobody is genuinely torn across all three.

Instantly's pitch has barely changed in three years, and that's to its credit: connect as many mailboxes as you like, warm all of them for free, and send from the pool. The sequence builder is the one most beginners actually finish setting up, and the Unibox pulls replies from every mailbox into one place, though on the outreach-only plans you need Hypergrowth ($97) to get it. The catch is that Instantly is three products in a trench coat. Sending, the lead database and the CRM are separate subscriptions, and the 2026 pricing page now leads with bundles (Starter $94, Scale $194, Agency $555) that combine them. Our full Instantly.ai review walks through what a five-person team really pays.

Smartlead is the tool people graduate to when Instantly starts to feel like a toy. Unlimited mailboxes and warmup on every plan, including the $39 Base tier. SmartSenders provisions Google, Outlook or SMTP mailboxes with SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up for you. API and webhook access from Pro ($94), white-label client workspaces at $29 a month each, dedicated servers at $39 a month, and a paid placement-testing product called SmartDelivery. The cost is that everything beyond raw sending is an add-on, and the interface assumes you know what an SPF record is. We fact-checked its own pitch line by line in our Smartlead AI review.

- Teams that want LinkedIn, calls and email in one sequence, with visual personalization
lemlist started as the personalization tool (custom images and landing pages in cold email) and grew into a full multichannel sequencer. Today one sequence can hold email, LinkedIn connection requests and messages, calls through the in-app dialer, SMS and a WhatsApp add-on, with conditional branches between them. A 650M+ lead database ships with every plan. The two things it doesn't do are sender rotation and a low entry price for multichannel: the Multichannel plan is $109 per user a month. What changed in 2026 is the Email plan, which is now $69 per workspace with unlimited users. Our Lemlist review covers the interface and the user feedback in more detail.
What they cost in 2026
Is the sticker price the price you'll pay? Rarely, and this is where most of the advice you'll read is wrong, because it quotes plan prices without the add-ons that everyone ends up buying.
Instantly pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Uploaded contacts | Emails/month | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Growth (outreach only) | $47 | 1,000 | 5,000 | Unlimited mailboxes and warmup, chat support |
| Hypergrowth (outreach only) | $97 | 25,000 | 125,000 | Adds Unibox replies and live support |
| Lightspeed (outreach only) | $358 | 100,000 | 500,000 | Adds dedicated server and IP rotation (SISR) |
| Starter (bundle) | $94 | 1,000 | 5,000 | Adds 1,500 lead credits and the AI sales agent |
| Scale (bundle) | $194 | 25,000 | 100,000 | Adds 5,000 credits, AI reply agent |
| Agency (bundle) | $555 | 100,000 | 500,000 | Adds 10,000 credits, SISR |
Lead credits on their own run $47 (1,500 credits), $97 (5,000) or from $197 (10,000 to 200,000). So a team that needs sending plus data is really choosing between Starter at $94 and Hypergrowth plus credits at $144.
Smartlead pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Annual (per month) | Contacts | Emails/month | API |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | $39 | $32.50 | 2,000 | 6,000 | No |
| Pro | $94 | $78.30 | 30,000 | 90,000 | Add-on |
| Unlimited Smart | $174 | $144.50 | Unlimited | 150,000 | Included |
| Unlimited Prime | $379 | $314.60 | Unlimited | 500,000 | Included, 3 client workspaces |
Then the add-ons: verified prospect emails (which have carried a $59 a month add-on on Base and Pro, and are free on the Unlimited tiers), SmartDelivery placement testing from $49 a month, SmartServers at $39 per server, white-label client workspaces at $29 each, SmartSenders mailboxes at $13 per domain a year plus $4.50 per mailbox a month, and a dialer from $9 a month in credits. The middle of this table is engineered to push you to Unlimited Smart, and honestly, if you're an agency, that's where you should start.
lemlist pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Annual (per month) | Billing | Emails/month | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $69 | $55 | Per workspace, unlimited users | 50,000 | ||
| Multichannel | $109 | $87 | Per user, 5 senders each | Unlimited | Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS, WhatsApp add-on |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Per user, 5-user minimum | Unlimited | All |
Data is credits: 1 credit is $0.01, a verified email costs 5 credits, a phone number 20, and buying-intent signals 20 to 400+. The database itself is included on every plan, which matters more than it sounds.

What a real team pays
Three scenarios, same rules for everyone: monthly billing, list price, August 2026.
One founder, email only, own list. Smartlead Base $39, Instantly Growth $47, lemlist Email $69. Smartlead is cheapest, Instantly is easiest, and the $30 gap to lemlist buys you a database you said you don't need.
Five people, email only, need a lead database. Instantly Starter bundle $94 (5,000 emails and 1,500 credits, tight for five people) or Hypergrowth plus credits at $144. Smartlead Pro $94 plus verified emails at $59 is $153, and that's still without a database. lemlist Email is $69 flat with unlimited users, 50,000 emails and the database included, plus credits when you reveal contacts. Here's the part that surprises people who last looked in 2024: lemlist is the cheapest option in this scenario by a wide margin.
Ten people, email plus LinkedIn. lemlist Multichannel is 10 × $109, or $1,090 a month. Instantly and Smartlead can't run LinkedIn as a sequence step, so you're adding a second tool and a second inbox, and reconciling which tool touched which prospect. Our lemlist vs Instantly breakdown prices that two-tool stack at $1,187 a month on monthly billing. Either way you're past a thousand dollars.
Head to head: where each one wins
Deliverability and sending infrastructure
Instantly and Smartlead are close to a tie here, and both are well ahead of lemlist. Both offer unlimited mailboxes and unlimited warmup on every plan, and both rotate sends across your mailbox pool, so a thousand emails spread across twenty mailboxes instead of hammering one. Smartlead edges it on depth: automated DNS through SmartSenders, a visible warmup pool, dedicated servers, and placement testing if you pay for SmartDelivery. Instantly reserves its dedicated server and IP rotation system for Lightspeed at $358.
lemlist has lemwarm for warmup and a Deliverability Hub with placement reporting, but no sender rotation. Every send goes out of the mailbox assigned to it. On the Multichannel plan you get five senders per user, which is fine for a rep working a focused patch and restrictive if you're running a pool.
One thing none of them changes: Google's bulk sender guidelines require SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication and a spam complaint rate under 0.3%, and no tool papers over a bad list. If your bounce rate is above 5%, your problem is data, not software.
Winner: Smartlead, narrowly over Instantly. lemlist third.
Channels and personalization
This one isn't close. lemlist runs email, LinkedIn (profile visits, connection requests, messages), calls, SMS and WhatsApp as steps in one conditional sequence, and it still has the deepest personalization in the category: custom images, personalized landing pages, and AI-written icebreakers per contact. Instantly is email only, full stop. Smartlead is email first, with LinkedIn reachable through webhooks and connectors like Clay or Zapier, and calling through the SmartDialer add-on. Both sending engines have added AI writing, and Instantly's AI reply agent is genuinely useful for triage, but neither is a multichannel tool.
Winner: lemlist, by a distance.
Lead data and verification
lemlist includes its 650M+ database on every plan and charges credits only to reveal contact details. Instantly's 450M+ database is comparable in size but sold separately, as credits from $47 a month or inside the bundles. Smartlead has no database at all; it verifies the emails you bring, and that verification has been a paid add-on on Base and Pro.
If you already buy data from Apollo, ZoomInfo or a list broker, this section doesn't matter and the sending engines pull ahead on price. If you don't, lemlist's included database is worth roughly a $47 to $59 a month subscription somewhere else.
Winner: lemlist. Instantly second, Smartlead third.

Team, agency and API
Smartlead was built with agencies in mind and it shows. White-label client workspaces at $29 a month each from Pro, three included on Unlimited Prime, API and webhooks so you can pipe results into your own client reporting, and no per-seat billing anywhere. Instantly's Agency bundle at $555 and Lightspeed at $358 serve the same market at higher volume and a higher price, and Instantly's workspace model is less flexible. lemlist's Enterprise plan has a five-user minimum and per-user billing, and its multi-workspace features are aimed at internal teams rather than client accounts.
Winner: Smartlead.
Ease of use and support
Instantly is the one a new SDR can set up on a Tuesday afternoon without reading a help doc. Smartlead assumes technical comfort and rewards it. lemlist sits in between: the sequence builder is polished, and G2 reviewers consistently praise its chat support, but the sheer number of channels and settings means a longer ramp. On support, Instantly's live support only starts at Hypergrowth, Smartlead's dedicated manager only at Unlimited Prime, and lemlist is the most generous at the entry tiers.
Winner: Instantly for setup, lemlist for support.
Which one for your team?
Think about who's actually going to log in every morning. A VP of Sales running twelve SDRs has a different problem from a founder doing outbound between customer calls, and the right answer changes with them.
Solo founder or two-person team, email only
Instantly. $47 gets you unlimited mailboxes and a builder you'll finish setting up today. If you already have your list and you're comfortable with DNS, Smartlead Base at $39 is the cheaper, slightly harder version of the same answer.
Agency running outbound for clients
Smartlead. Start at Unlimited Smart ($174) rather than climbing from Base, add client workspaces at $29 each, and use the API for reporting. Instantly's Agency bundle is the alternative if your volume is at the 500,000-a-month end.
SDR team that needs LinkedIn and calls in the sequence
lemlist. It's the only one of the three that runs all the channels as sequence steps, and the database means you're not paying for data twice. Budget $109 per seat and accept there's no sender rotation, so keep email volume per rep sane.
Email-only team of five or more that needs a database
lemlist Email, surprisingly. $69 flat for unlimited users with the database included beats Instantly's bundles and Smartlead plus verified leads. This is the answer that most comparisons written before the 2026 repricing get wrong.

What about the technical, high-volume in-house team, say a RevOps lead running forty mailboxes across eight domains for a ten-person SDR floor? Smartlead, unless the team also needs LinkedIn steps, in which case you're back to the two-tool stack or to the alternative in the section below.
One honest uncertainty. Instantly reshuffled its pricing page into bundles this year and Smartlead's verified-leads add-on has moved between "included" and "paid" on the cheaper tiers more than once. The plan prices in this post are what the pricing pages showed on 25 August 2026, and we'll update this post when they change, but if you're reading this months later, check the add-on lines before you trust the totals.
Still down to two?
If you've narrowed it to a pair, we've written each match-up in full, with per-headcount cost tables:
- Instantly vs Smartlead for the sending-engine decision: deliverability, automation depth and pricing at scale.
- lemlist vs Instantly for the sequencer-versus-engine decision, including what lemlist's 2026 repricing does to the maths.
- Smartlead vs lemlist is the cleanest split of the three: infrastructure and unlimited mailboxes against multichannel and personalization. If your outbound lives in email, Smartlead. If it lives in the reply, lemlist.
And if you're widening the shortlist rather than narrowing it, the best Instantly.ai alternatives and best lemlist alternatives roundups cover the rest of the category.
If none of the three fit
Disclosure first: this post is published by SmartReach.io, which competes with all three tools. We've tried to keep the comparison above straight, and the section below is where we make our own case.
The gap in this three-way comparison is obvious once you lay it out. The two sending engines don't do channels. The sequencer doesn't do rotation. So the team that needs both, which in our experience is most teams past about five reps, ends up paying for two tools and reconciling two inboxes.
SmartReach.io was built for that team. Email, LinkedIn, calling, WhatsApp and SMS run as conditional steps in one sequence, like lemlist. Underneath, the Deliver4Sure suite does inbox rotation across your mailbox pool, ESP matching (Google-to-Google and Microsoft-to-Microsoft routing, which none of the three above offer), blacklist monitoring that pulls an affected inbox out of rotation automatically, and free email verification on every plan. You can also buy authenticated Azure mailboxes in-platform, a domain plus 50 mailboxes for $35 a month, instead of setting up DNS yourself.
Second tier, like for like
Entry plans flatter everyone, so here's the comparison most teams actually face: the second tier of each product, monthly billing, August 2026. Instantly Hypergrowth, Smartlead Pro, lemlist Multichannel, and SmartReach.io Sales Engagement Plus. Same rows as the table at the top, one extra column, and we've left the cells where we lose exactly as they are. SmartReach.io Plus here means the Sales Engagement Plus plan: 50,000 prospects contacted, 3 calling seats and 3 LinkedIn seats included, with LinkedIn automation as a $29 per account add-on.
| Instantly | Smartlead | lemlist | SmartReach.io | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plan | Hypergrowth | Pro | Multichannel | Sales Engagement Plus |
| Price | $97 | $94 | $109 per user | $99 |
| Billing | Flat | Flat | Per seat | Flat, unlimited users |
| Five users | $97 | $94 | $545 | $99 |
| Emails/month | 125,000 | 90,000 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Mailboxes / warmup | Unlimited / unlimited | Unlimited / unlimited | 5 per user / lemwarm | Unlimited / 25 |
| Sender rotation | Yes | Yes | No | Yes, with ESP matching |
| Channels | Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS, WhatsApp | Email, LinkedIn, calls, WhatsApp, SMS | ||
| Lead data | Credits from $47 extra | None, verification add-on | 650M+ included, credits to reveal | Lead Finder included, free verification |
| Unified inbox | Included | Included | Included | Included |
| Buy mailboxes | No | Add-on | No | Google, Microsoft, Azure |
The row that decides it for a team is billing. lemlist Multichannel is the only per-seat line in the table, and per-seat is the multiplier: five reps is $545 a month, ten is $1,090, before a single credit. Instantly and Smartlead are flat but email only, so the LinkedIn and calling steps happen in a second tool with its own bill. SmartReach.io Sales Engagement Plus is $99 for the workspace, with unlimited users, five channels and rotation in one place. If the team is email only, Email Outreach Plus is $89 on the same terms.
Where it doesn't beat them, and the table shows it: Instantly and Smartlead warm unlimited mailboxes where Plus warms 25 (Pro warms 75, Scale is unlimited), Instantly is still the fastest tool to set up, Smartlead's agency tooling and API are deeper, and lemlist's visual personalization is the best in the category. If one of those is the thing you're buying, buy it.
Whatever you shortlist, test it the same way. Take 200 real prospects from your actual market, run a real two-week sequence, and measure inbox placement and reply rate rather than feature counts. Two weeks of your own data beats every comparison post on the internet, including this one.
Instantly vs Smartlead vs Lemlist: FAQ
Which is better, Instantly, Smartlead or Lemlist?
None of them wins outright, because they do different jobs. Instantly is the easiest high-volume sending engine for a solo founder or small team that only needs email. Smartlead is the infrastructure choice for agencies and technical senders who want unlimited mailboxes, API access and client workspaces. Lemlist is the multichannel sequencer, with LinkedIn, calling, SMS and a 650M+ lead database in one plan. Pick by the job, not by the star rating.
Which is cheapest, Instantly, Smartlead or Lemlist?
On monthly billing in August 2026, Smartlead Base is $39, Instantly Growth is $47 and lemlist Email is $69. Those are sticker prices. Add lead data and the order changes: Instantly's Starter bundle with credits is $94, Smartlead's verified prospect emails have carried a $59 add-on on the Base and Pro tiers, and lemlist includes its database in the $69 workspace plan with unlimited users. For one person with their own list, Smartlead is cheapest. For a team that needs data, lemlist Email often is.
Which has the best deliverability, Instantly, Smartlead or Lemlist?
Instantly and Smartlead, because both give you unlimited mailboxes, unlimited warmup and sender rotation across the pool on every plan. Smartlead adds automated DNS setup, a warmup pool and paid placement testing, which makes it the deeper toolkit. Lemlist has lemwarm and a Deliverability Hub but no sender rotation at all, so at volume every send leans on one mailbox. Deliverability still depends more on your list quality and domain setup than on the tool.
Do Instantly or Smartlead do LinkedIn outreach?
Not as native sequence steps. Instantly campaigns are email only. Smartlead is email first, with LinkedIn possible through webhooks and third-party connectors, and calling sold as a credit-based dialer add-on. Lemlist is the only one of the three with LinkedIn automation, in-app calling, SMS and WhatsApp as steps inside the same sequence, and that lives on its Multichannel plan at $109 per user a month.
Which is best for agencies, Instantly, Smartlead or Lemlist?
Smartlead, in most cases. White-label client workspaces are $29 a month each from the Pro tier, Unlimited Prime includes three, API and webhook access lets you build your own reporting, and mailboxes are unlimited on every plan. Instantly's Agency bundle is $555 a month and its outreach-only Lightspeed plan is $358, both aimed at very high volume. Lemlist's Enterprise plan has a five-user minimum and isn't designed around client workspaces.
Do Instantly, Smartlead and Lemlist include lead data?
Lemlist does: the 650M+ database comes with every plan, and you pay credits only to reveal verified emails (5 credits) or phone numbers (20 credits), at $0.01 a credit. Instantly sells its 450M+ database as a separate credits subscription from $47 a month, or bundled into Starter, Scale and Agency plans. Smartlead doesn't have a lead database; it verifies emails you bring, and that verification has been a paid add-on on its cheaper tiers.
Is there an alternative to Instantly, Smartlead and Lemlist?
Yes. If you want lemlist's five channels in one sequence together with the sender rotation Instantly and Smartlead are known for, SmartReach.io covers both halves, billed by prospects contacted with unlimited users, from $29 a month for email outreach and $39 a month for the multichannel plan. Other names that come up on the same shortlist are Saleshandy, Woodpecker and Reply.io. Disclosure: SmartReach.io publishes this comparison.
Can you switch between Instantly, Smartlead and Lemlist without losing deliverability?
Yes, if you own your domains and mailboxes. All three connect to mailboxes you bought from Google or Microsoft, so your sending reputation travels with the mailbox, not the tool. What doesn't travel is warmup history inside the platform, so reconnect mailboxes and let the new tool warm them for a week or two before sending at full volume. If you bought mailboxes through a platform's own mailbox service, check whether you can export them before you cancel.
